Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are widely used by critical infrastructure and ubiquitous in numerous industries including telecommunications, petrochemical, manufacturing. ICS at a high risk of cyber attack given their internet accessibility, inherent lack security, deployment timelines, criticality. A unique challenge security is the prevalence serial communication buses other non-TCP/IP communications protocols. The protocols within often authentication integrity protections, leaving them vulnerable to spoofing replay attacks. bandwidth constraints legacy hardware these systems prevent use modern message techniques, such as those provided Transport Layer Security (TLS). Our approach seeks address challenges providing while keeping existing bus place adding minimal hardware. Here we demonstrate integration field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) on inject codes into an out-of-band (OOB) channel, leveraging Power Line Communication (PLC) techniques. results show that simple solutions can be integrated provide necessary features critically important systems. presented solution inexpensive, scales well, modular extensible, has low temporal overhead.
